01A structured mapping specification
MapSpec expresses a pipeline through YAML or JSON. The team has a concrete place to describe a transformation instead of leaving it in a conversation or one-off script. The specification is the starting point for reviewing inputs, mapping decisions and the expected destination result.
02Source, transformation, destination
A pipeline brings data from somewhere, applies rules and sends the result somewhere useful. Separate modules keep those responsibilities visible. The project can discuss transformation without hiding source assumptions or output requirements inside the same code. Confirm available adapters for your exact systems during technical review.
03Rules the team can review
Field mapping becomes more complex when the business asks why a value changed. An explicit specification gives engineers and reviewers a way to discuss assumptions. Start with representative records and expected outputs so the review checks what the pipeline means, not only whether it runs against one example.
04Validation as part of the workflow
Inputs and outputs need checks against the integration requirements. Validation and operational controls are part of the product direction. The appropriate cases depend on the data: an empty field, a missing record and a complete payload can each need different treatment before a downstream system relies on the result.
05A clear integration boundary
Identify who owns the source, who consumes the output and what happens when a rule changes. Work through sample files or payloads before deciding on production use. This is particularly valuable when replacing an undocumented integration whose behaviour is known only to the person who wrote it.
06An evaluation before a commitment
STS Mapper remains in development. Discuss formats, systems and operational requirements so supported scope and remaining work are clear. The modular approach does not claim that a particular connector is already implemented. A scoped evaluation is the next step when structured mapping fits the problem.
